STOP SHOPPING CENTER TO BE REBORN AS A CULTURAL CO-WORKING SPACE

The STOP Shopping Center will be reborn with a rehabilitation project that will transform some of its spaces into a cultural co-working space.

The owners of the STOP Shopping Center have a rehabilitation project to transform some spaces into a cultural co-working space, according to Ricardo Valente, the city councilor for Economy at the Porto City Council.

“There is an internal rehabilitation project for the center being promoted by the current owners to transform the center into a shared workspace from a cultural point of view,” Ricardo Valente told JN.

Co-working space

The project is a partnership between the condominium administration and a group of young people involved in other creative co-working spaces in the city. The idea is to promote collaborative work in the Invicta city.

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto, clarified that the space is being considered for the upper floor, where there is a "multi-purpose" space.

Regarding the Pires de Lima School, the solution presented by the municipality to musicians as an alternative to Stop, Pedro Baganha, the city councilor for Urbanism, explained that the project is being designed with a view to its phased implementation.

On May 24, the Porto City Council launched the procedure to classify the STOP Shopping Center as a property of municipal interest, according to a notice published in the Official Gazette.

STOP, where rehearsal rooms and studios predominantly operate, saw most of its units sealed on July 18, 2023, leaving almost 500 artists and shopkeepers without a place to go, but reopened on August 4th, with a fire truck at the door.

At this moment, it is operating indefinitely, following an injunction filed by the owners against the city council's decision to close the building.
