CHARITY AUCTION TO SUPPORT A FAMILY DISPLACED BY THE AVEIRO FIRES

The charity auction of a cod and a bottle of olive oil runs until January 15, 2025, here. As a result, the funds raised will contribute to supporting a family, already selected, that was displaced by the fires in Aveiro.

The initiative, organized by LEILOSOC®, is carried out in partnership with 2 reference entities.  Thus, in the cod industry, the brand Sr. Bacalhau, and in the olive oil industry, Ourogal.

The auctioned products stand out for their quality and exclusivity, as can be verified on the charity auction pages. In fact, it is one of the largest “Sr. Bacalhau” of the 2024 harvest, weighing about 8kg. The fish was scaled with head in Norway and can be bid on here. To complement the dishes of this delicacy, it will be possible to bid here on a magnum bottle (1500ml) of Ourogal Centenarium olive oil.

The Cod

The “Sr. Bacalhau” is a brand from the Aveiro region, from the company Rui Costa e Sousa & Irmão. Its cod is prepared from the catch, which occurs between February and April, until Christmas. Thus, availability is guaranteed to meet seasonal demand. In Norway, the company uses a pioneering verticalization strategy in the cod supply chain. According to the company, “Sr. Bacalhau” has two factories in that country, thus initiating the production process phase.

The Olive Oil

The Ourogal Centenarium is an olive oil, of the Galega variety, with high aromatic complexity, highlighting notes of apple and green almonds. Indeed, its flavor is persistent over time, robust, yet elegant. The first extraction is done cold (maximum 4 hours) and the olive oil has a maximum acidity of 0.3%.

This olive oil, produced with olives from olive groves over 400 years old, is recognized by the best chefs and competitions in the world. Among them are AVPA-Product Gourmet (Paris), Mezquita (Córdoba) and Mario Solinas (Madrid). The careful selection of olives is done using traditional hand harvesting. Subsequently, the olive fruit is transformed into olive oil, which naturally flows into stainless steel tanks. Therefore, this method guarantees the chemical and organoleptic stability of this nectar.

Small Gestures, Big Support!

In short, the funds raised are entirely dedicated to supporting a family, already selected, that was displaced by the fires in Aveiro.

The fires that affected the Aveiro district in September 2024 caused a loss of 30 million euros. Currently, it is known that approximately 8,800 hectares of forest have burned. The fires, which had consequences for numerous families, caused damage to housing totaling 8.9 million euros.

In addition, a large share of the losses is related to the damage suffered by municipal infrastructure and agriculture. Economic activities (tourism, industry, commerce and services) were also heavily impacted.
